FIA Euro AX Buggy 1600 Pre-Season Analysis!

2 April 2025, Ronalds

As we look back at the past Buggy 1600 season, it’s also time to take a look at the upcoming 2025 season and what we can expect from it.

2024 Season Recap:

The 2024 season was dominated by three Alfa Racing drivers, Arnošt Florian, Jakub Novotny and Markus Wibbeler, who occupied the top three positions. In the end, it was Markus Wibbeler who took his first European Championship title in a thrilling finale in Mollerussa.
With 9 different winners in 10 races, that’s an incredible level, with only Styn Jaspers managing to win two races in 2024.

What’s in store for us this year?

In recent years, the Buggy 1600 category has been the most competitive class in the FIA European Autocross Championship. This trend is set to continue, promising a season full of fast drivers and intense battles at every race.

When it comes to title contenders, Alfa Racing chassis drivers Novotny, Florian and Jasper are likely to be among the favourites. However, hot on their heels will be drivers like Bart Van Der Putten, Danny Van Den Berg, Remo Kobras, Mervin Klaassen, Ricardo Otto and others who plan to contest the full season. If they can combine their speed with consistency, they will certainly be in the fight for the top positions.

Another interesting trend in the paddock is the increasing number of drivers switching to Peters chassis buggies, with drivers like Steven Hermann and Henrik Bundesmann opting for this setup and many others making the switch last year.

There may still be some surprises in store, but we’ll leave some room for speculation as the season gets closer. Stay tuned for more updates!
