Exciting Start to the 2025 Season of the Xunta de Galicia Autocross Championship

21 March 2025, Stefano

The 2025 season of the Xunta de Galicia Autocross Championship kicked off in thrilling fashion with the 86th Autocross Arteixo, the first points-scoring round of the series, held at the José Ramón Losada Circuit. The fantastic Saturday event was accompanied by great weather and a strong turnout, with nearly 90 entries —a number of participating teams not seen in Galicia for two decades—.

Regarding the competition, Class I, reserved for vehicles under 2000cc, was dominated throughout the day by David Varela (Peugeot 306), who was joined on the podium by Manoel Felipez (Citroën Saxo) and Eloy Castro (Citroën Saxo).

The always spectacular Class II, featuring +1600cc cars, had Jon Ander López (Citroën Saxo) as the dominant force. He was chased in the afternoon final by Iván Fernández (Peugeot 206) and Rubén Pico (Peugeot 206), but the reigning champion managed to keep his closest rivals at bay.

The fierce Class III, for carcross vehicles, saw a hard-fought final race, ultimately won by Diego García (Lifelive TN11). The 2024 junior category runner-up managed to overtake Darío Calviño (Yacarcross) and Ioritz Zalloetxebarría (Yacarcross) in the closing laps of the five-lap final.

The young talents shaping the future of the sport, competing in Class V of Junior Carcross, once again thrilled the spectators at the Arteixo track with intense battles and exciting racing. Portuguese driver Joao Agra (Yacarcross) claimed victory ahead of Oscar Fuertes (Lifelive TN11) and Manuel Bermúdez (Lifelive TN11), three drivers who'll be racing on the European stage this year.

Finally, Class VI, featuring the spectacular buggies, delivered a dramatic head-to-head showdown that was decided in the final corner of the last lap. Ethan Daparte (Atmos Superbuggy) secured the win ahead of Carlos Mallo (Hosek).

The next round of the regional championship will take place in a month at the O Castro circuit, while the action will return to the José Ramón Losada Circuit in June for the 87th Autocross Arteixo.
