AX MAGAZINE ITALIA presents an insight from the king of the CrossCar class, David Meat, as he reflects on the past season and shares his future plans and goals!
"My 2024 season was incredibly strong. I was always on the podium, with four wins, except for Maggiora, where I suffered a puncture.
I was happy with my speed and my ability to adapt to different tracks in every race.
My consistency was key to my success last year. i didn't make any mistakes and always secured a spot in the front row for the finals, which helped me avoid trouble in the first corner. Additionally, my ability to improve throughout the weekend allowed me to make a difference and maintain a small gap to maximize points during the heats.
If I had to point out a weakness, I would say I could improve my starts. Whenever I didn’t win, it was usually because I didn’t start in the lead and struggled to find overtaking opportunities. I could also work on better grid selection and reaction time.
The highlight of my 2024 season was in Saint-Georges-de-Montaigu, where I scored 35 points while my main rival didn’t make it to the final. That gave me a comfortable lead, and psychologically, I felt stronger than ever.
In my opinion, the toughest moment is always the semi-final. The pressure is intense, drivers are nervous, and everyone is fighting for a spot in the final. There’s no room for mistakes—you can lose the win if you're not fully focused.
The most challenging event of the season was Nyirád, especially on Saturday after a collision with Miguel in the first heat. I had to start from scratch and rebuild my performance. However, I stayed patient, took my time, and managed to secure a spot in the front row for the final.
Now, it's time to go again! This season, I’ll be competing in the European CrossCar Championship, giving my best to fight for and defend the title.
I also plan to explore new disciplines, such as Baja racing in a side-by-side."
We wish David a successful 2025 season, may all his goals come true!
