Heat, Downpours & Drama: Nyirád Delivers a Spectacle
Sweltering heat, torrential rain, and electrifying battles – the third round of the 2025 FIA European Autocross Championship at Hungary’s legendary Nyirád Racing Center was nothing short of a motorsport thriller. Known as the "Red Dust Bowl", Nyirád transformed into a mud-soaked arena of chaos and courage, putting both man and machine to the test.
Super Buggy: Bartelen Breaks Through as Tóth Delights Home Crowd
After a quiet qualifying performance, Dutch driver Mike Bartelen made a stunning comeback in Sunday’s slippery final. Behind the wheel of his Trackline buggy, Bartelen mastered the wet conditions to claim a dominant victory.
Veteran Bernd Stubbe finished second, showing grit and experience that now places him at the top of the championship standings. But it was Hungarian driver Richard Tóth who stole the show locally—delivering a consistent weekend and securing a sensational third place to the delight of the roaring home fans
Buggy 1600: Mandel's Masterclass in the Mud
In Buggy 1600, German driver René Mandel was simply untouchable. With victories in all heats, the semi-final, and the final, Mandel’s performance was flawless from start to finish.
Last year’s Nyirád winner Jakub Novotný had to settle for second this time, while Rudy Van Buren fought heroically to hold on to third place, nursing a damaged engine through the closing laps in a gritty display of determination.
Junior Buggy: Kolomy Takes the Lead as Feuillade Falters
After an intense battle in the Junior Buggy category, it was Martin Kolomý who emerged victorious, taking the overall championship lead by just two points.
Championship frontrunner Malone Feuillade had been leading the final before a cruel engine failure forced him to retire. Rising Czech talent Ladislav Hanák impressed with a strong second-place finish, while Tinus Franssen took third after showing impressive pace all weekend.
CrossCar: Gillouin Upsets the Favorites in Wet-Weather Shootout
Three rounds, three different winners – and this time it was Frenchman Yoann Gillouin who outshone the favorites in a soaked and slippery final.
Pre-race favorites David Meat and Ivan Pina Chinchilla were left chasing shadows as Gillouin surged to his first win of the season. With this performance, Gillouin now joins Meat and Pina in what’s shaping up to be a thrilling three-way title fight.
CrossCar Junior: Gonzalez Keeps Spanish Winning Streak Alive
Spain’s dominance in the CrossCar Junior class continues, this time courtesy of Abel Gonzalez, who delivered a textbook drive in the LifeLive buggy.
Unlike in Seelow, where the podium was all Spanish, this time the spoils were shared. Belgian title contender Jordan Genten claimed second, and rising German star Henri Haaf grabbed a well-earned third after a strong showing throughout the weekend.
Next Stop: Matschenberg – Where Skill Meets Steel
A massive thank-you goes out to the incredible team at Nyirád for hosting a round. Next up, the championship caravan heads north to Germany, where Matschenberg Offroad Arena awaits. Nestled in the hills of Saxony, this technical, high-grip circuit is known for punishing even the smallest mistakes.
Mark your calendars: June 28–29 expect a weekend of raw speed, high drama, and no room for error.
